From Andrea Faste, Board President

Greetings Groundswell friends and April sunshine, Wasn't it supposed to rain all this week? I took my mom to the Skagit Valley tulips yesterday, Tuesday, thinking it might be the best day, and it wasn't bad. Sometimes the Skagit is so impressive when the sky is full of big fat clouds and the red and purple rows of flowers stretch out in spite of all heavenly threats. It was like that for us, and we had no rain at all. Then there was today, Wednesday...white, puffy clouds and our own little tulip festivals happening in front yards right along my block. So let's hear it for spring, according to Robin Williams it is nature's way of saying "let's party." And I thank you for all who did party at our annual meeting and listen to Mayor McGinn. While his report on the expensive grey infrastructure and the sad state of the city's financial health was daunting, at least he tells it like it is, and remains true to his long range hope for a greener Seattle in the years to come.

April will have the usual frenzy of "earth day" events and work parties as well as special programming on Channel 9 as this is the 40th anniversary of the first one. There's an Easter Egg hunt at Corners Park this coming Sunday at 10. Please study the calendar of events and come join us.

Wed, 04/28: Crown Hill Park Public Meeting

The future Crown Hill Park is nearly here! The temporary Fire Station #35 will be moving back into the new quarters later this year. And that clears the way to move forward on the Crown Hill Park.  The park is to be located on the southern portion of the former Crown Hill Elementary School site. Seattle Parks and Recreation worked with the community a few years ago to develop a plan for the site. Since that time, the land for the park was acquired using Parks Levy Opportunity Fund dollars, and the Crown Hill Project acquired the school building. It is now time to review the former plans with respect to a revised park  footprint, and site conditions. Seattle Parks and Recreation is convening this public meeting to define a preferred schematic plan based on the formerly developed plans and current site conditions. This is your chance to see what is in store and provide input.  More information on the project is available from the Parks department website at http://www.seattle.gov/parks/projects/crown_hill/ Time: 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
