From the PresidentDear friends,
Among the many inspiring images and themes from the inauguration, the messages and stories of community service from the day before, Martin Luther King Day, really struck home for me. Groundswell and our members remain committed to building community by creating and improving parks and habitat, providing opportunities for neighbors to work together and places for them to gather. Please check our website and the notices below for ways to participate.
Please mark your calendars for our Annual Meeting, featuring Parks Superintendent Tim Gallagher: 7-9pm Monday, March 9, at the Ballard Community Center, 6020 28th Ave. NW. The event is a dessert potluck - bring something if you wish, but don't sweat it - there's always plenty to go around! Also featured will be our annual Local Heroes awards.

2009 Neighborhood Projects Funds(Neighborhood Street Fund & Cumulative Reserve Subfund)Have Ideas for Neighborhood Improvements? Propose a Project Today! What are Neighborhood Projects Funds (NPF)? NPF consists of two funds, the Neighborhood Street Fund and the Cumulative Reserve Subfund. These funds are a portion of Seattle's city budget - approximately $1.2 Million in 2010 - that is set aside for neighborhood improvements to streets and parks. These funds are unique because NPF projects are proposed by the community. Links: Full fact sheet. Appication. Groundswell NW EventsTue, 02/17: East Ballard Community Association February Night OutThe East Ballard Community Association has invited King County Metro to discuss the latest proposals for Rapid Ride bus transit in Ballard. We've all received the surveys in the mail and if your like me, you have lots of question. This will be a great opportunity to get those questions answered and to have a voice in helping Metro make their decision. We will also have an open forum for East Ballard neighbors to propose projects to be submitted for Neighborhood Projects Funds Grants. These applications are due Feb 27th. Examples of projects funded last year include traffic circles, sidewalk repair and construction, signage, green streets, etc. Check out this link for the full list: http://www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/btgnsfcrf/pubs/07_08_funded_projects.pdf.
