The Friends of the Troll’s Knoll would like to update you all on our progress for improving the area around the Fremont Troll and some exciting news:

  • We are on facebook.  Come check out the project designs, become a fan, stay updated on events
  • We are applying to Seattle’s Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Fund (application due on April 1st).  This is a very exciting opportunity and our project fits their criteria very well. We held a Community Meeting to inform the community on the levy application process and finalize the site development plan.
  • We’ve been granted the Small and Simple grant from the Seattle’s Neighborhood Match Fund Program
  • For those of you that pledged donations… please send your pledge amount to:
      Groundswell NW
      PO Box 17163
      Seattle, WA 98127
Please make checks out to ‘Groundswell NW’ and put ‘Friend of the Troll’s Knoll’ in the memo line.
  • For those of you that pledged volunteer hours, please see our list of volunteer opportunities below and stay tuned for an April tree planting event
  • Volunteer Opportunities.  Contact Kimberly Scrivner 253-732-0885
    • We’re looking for volunteers to flyer businesses in Fremont to advertise the community meeting and other events
    • We’re looking for volunteers with pick-up trucks that can help us collect mulch, bring green waste to the dump, etc.
    • We’re looking for volunteers to help us with contacting Fremont businesses for letters of support, on-going volunteer clean-ups, etc.
Post from the Summer 2009 Clean and Green Event:

Thank you all for coming out to Saturday's Clean and Green at the Troll to clean up what will soon be ‘The Troll's Knoll'. This was a fun and encouraging event as we had over 30 volunteers who all worked very hard to clean up this space and give us feedback on other ideas to better this space.

Thanks also the Fremont Universe for reporting this event and to Mayor Nickels for coming out to support us!

For those of you interested in the project here, we are applying for a grant with Seattle's Neighborhood Match Fund Grant program on August 31st. If you have not already done so, please pledge resources, volunteer hours or any donation to help us meet our match. You can do this by replying to this email!

We also will be presenting the preliminary designs to the Fremont Neighborhood Council at their October meeting. The community is invited so stay tuned for further details. We also will be having other community meetings for the ‘Friends of the Troll's Knoll' to vet the design, get your ideas and to talk about long term stewardship. This will be coming in the next few months as well as a tree planting event this fall (if and WHEN we receive our grant). Stay tuned for more details. You also can reply to this email to be taken off of ‘The Troll's Knoll' mailing.

Thank you all again for caring about your community!!
