The campaign to renew the parks levy and continue funding trails and green spaces throughout Seattle is gearing up. We can't afford to take passage for granted, especially with the tight economic times and other worthy measures on the ballot. Neighborhood Matching Fund 20 Year Celebration - 9/6

The City of Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods is celebrating 20 years of
Neighborhood Matching Fund (NMF) projects with a series of events. Kicking off
the celebrations is an event on Saturday, September 6 from 10 - 2 at the Phinney
Neighborhood Center. The celebrations continue throughout Seattle, every
Saturday through October 11th, the date of our culminating celebration.

BBQ Lunch & Landsburg Dam Tour - 9/13

We cordially invite you and a guest to attend The Friends of the Cedar River Watershed's 2008 Volunteer Celebration BBQ Lunch & Landsburg Dam Tour.

Once a year, we get to thank the volunteers, members and friends who make our work in the Cedar River Watershed possible.

Please be our guest for an end of summer BBQ and celebration at Landsburg Park. We'll have food, fun, and prizes. We'll also take a rare behind-the-scenes tour of Landsburg Dam - a great way to see the primary source of King County's drinking water. Don't miss it!

EarthCorps World Night - 9/13

Pack your passport and get ready to travel the world. Please join us for presentations, performances and plenty of delicious foods from the countries and cultures of EarthCorps! Eleven countries will be represented including: Bolivia, Ghana, Jamaica, Pakistan, Panama, Serbia, Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda and Uzbekistan.

Water Efficiency Workshop - 9/17

Seattle Public Utilities is hosting a FREE Water Efficiency Workshop for sustainable buildings and sites on September 17th at the iconic Golden Gardens Bathhouse.

Water Efficiency: Driving Sustainable Buildings and Sites, uses water as a defining concept to facilitate holistic thinking about buildings and sites. The FREE workshop offers an interactive format where sector based groups will work on problem solving following presentations. Click here for more information.


Second Annual 2008 Piper’s Orchard Harvest Festival - 9/20

Join the celebration of the oldest living orchard in Seattle: Carkeek Park’s 117 year old Piper’s Orchard. The 2008 Harvest Festival will be hosted in the environmentally friendly, LEED certified Carkeek Park Environmental Learning Center. Expand you knowledge of our historic orchard and fruit growing by listening to our guest presenters. Sample heirloom apples from the orchard, make fresh pressed apple cider, and take part in our pie baking contest!

Pacific Connections Garden Opens - 9/20

The opening celebration for the first phase of the new Pacific Connections Garden takes place on Saturday, September 20, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Washington Park Arboretum. When completed, Pacific Connections will be the largest garden added to the Arboretum since its inception in 1934.

The opening features Mayor Greg Nickels and University of Washington Provost Phyllis Wise. Family activities include guided tours of Pacific Connections, regional music from Chile and Australia, a scavenger hunt, and games from the Burke Museum. UW Botanic Gardens will unveil its new Pacific Connections Garden audio guides, which also will be downloadable from its website.

Sustainable Ballard Festival - 9/27

Mark your calendars now for the 5th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival! It will feature fun activities, contests, music, speakers and special exhibits that promote a sustainable future and raise public awareness about alternative modes of transportation, eating locally, clean energy, waste reduction, and much more.
