Ballard Waterfront Park
5300 24th Ave NW, Seattle WA
Groundswell NW has teamed with Friends of Street Ends, Washington Water Trails Association and Sustainable Ballard to promote the creation of a waterfront park at the site of the former Yankee Diner, adjacent to the 24th Ave NW shoreline street end. Currently housing the construction offices for Seattle Public Utilities’ Ship Canal Water Quality Project, we propose that the site be sold to Seattle Parks and Recreation after that project is completed in 2027.
The SPU project will include some great improvements to the street end and adjacent areas, and already rebuilt the pier. We want to build on that to create a waterfront park to serve Ballard, recently designated as a Regional Center in the Seattle comprehensive plan.
In Fall 2026, we worked with the University of Washington Scan Design Studio to develop concepts for the site. below is one rendering of a potential future waterfront park.
